“One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feeling. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child.”
– Carl Jung
I live in Roanoke, VA where I teach eleventh grade English at the college-bound level and at the AP/Dual-Enrollment level at Cave Spring High School. I am also the yearbook adviser. In May 2019, I completed my Master of Arts in Teaching from Hollins University. I graduated from Tufts University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music in 2015. When I’m not in the classroom, you will probably find me hiking in the woods, reading a new novel, or exploring with my camera in hand!
As a student, the English classroom always provided a space for me to confront my own identity and beliefs with both productive frustration and great joy. I intend to create that same environment for my students. As an educator, I firmly believe that the purpose of education is not to stuff the memory, but to shape the mind and the person who wields it. By building relationships in the classroom, teachers can more effectively tailor instruction to individual students and push them to discover their own potential, academic and otherwise.
